Rediscovering Yourself: The Power of Self-Compassion in Change
Do you ever feel like you’ve lost yourself somewhere between the school runs, the never-ending to-do lists, and making sure everyone else is fed, happy, and vaguely presentable? Like you’re constantly giving but never quite sure where you fit into the equation?
I see you.
I know what it’s like to feel stretched so thin that you’re not sure there’s anything left for you. To love your family deeply, yet still feel a quiet loneliness underneath it all. To wonder when you stopped recognising the woman staring back at you in the mirror.
I’ve been there - disconnected from who I really am, questioning my worth, and doubting whether I could ever make lasting change in my life.
But here’s what I’ve learned: Change begins with self-compassion.
For the longest time, I thought putting myself last was the right thing to do. That being a good mother, partner, sister, and friend meant always showing up for everyone else first. But somewhere along the way, I realised that I am just as worthy of love and care as the people I give it to so freely. And that shift in mindset? It changed everything.
One of the first things I did was give myself permission to pause. I used to tell myself I didn’t have time, but even five minutes of stillness - whether through journaling, meditating, or just sitting in silence - made a huge difference. Those small moments gave me space to reconnect with myself, to remember that I exist beyond my roles and responsibilities.
I also started setting small, achievable goals. Nothing overwhelming - just little steps, like listening to music I love, taking a walk, or saying “no” when I needed to. These small victories rebuilt my confidence and reminded me that change doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful.
And here’s something I want you to know: No matter where you are, no matter how lost you feel, you are worthy of love, growth, and transformation.
The path back to yourself isn’t a straight line, and it won’t happen overnight. But every small act of self-compassion - every pause, every boundary you set, every tiny moment you claim for yourself - brings you closer to the woman you were always meant to be.
If you’re feeling unseen, unheard, or just tired, know this: You are not alone. And you don’t have to figure this out on your own.
I’d love to hear from you - what’s one small thing you can do today, just for you?
No guilt, no pressure - just one tiny step towards yourself.
Let’s start the conversation, because we’re in this together.
With love and understanding,
Michelle :)
